Hi All,

We have acquired 2 rifles that a friend is interested in. I just want to check they aren't super rare or valuable before giving them away. Any information you can provide would be much appreciated.

The one with all the doodads on it is worth 800 to 1200K. The other is French, probably mid 1750s. Could be worth several thousand. Can't really tell exactly by the pics.

That Sling doesn't look like tourist-trade and may have value in and of itself to put on another musket. These may be actual jezail muskets, not just tourist-trap decorators.

Your estimate is quite a bit elevated, IMHO.

Original jezails ( that’s what the first gun is) that are NOT put together tourist junk are rare. The problem is being able to tell if it is all original, as many were slapped together with original spare parts. A real jezail used to snipe at British troops is way more desirable than one knocked up in Uncle Abdul’s bargain souvenir emporium in 1995. I have no idea what the second musket is. It may be worth big bucks. Or not. I would sit on them until you get definite proof as to what they are.

I have taken a few more pics of the first rifle, after searching for the second rifle for an hour the oldies said they thought that one was worthless and gave it away .
Here are a few extras of the first. Hopefully this gives more insight.

Afghan jezail. Looks like the real deal to me . Made with an English military flintlock, I’m not sure what model. Search this forum for “ jezail” there is a whole thread on these guns here. People want these as decorations, they look good on the wall! Hopefully RickStLouis will add his expert opinion on this.

Much agree with Sam. Genuine Afghan Jazail. Not a tourist copy in this case. The lock appears to be a genuine British East India military musket lock (very common). Some of these locks used a bun-nut versus the typical hammer screw, which is still authentic. Looks like even the original ramrod is still there. Strangely enough, in recent years these Middle Eastern type guns (if genuine) have gone up in price. So even in this condition, and with the top jaw and screw of the lock missing, it still could fetch $200-300.00 on an auction site like Gun B______.

I would even make an offer, if I didn't already own four of them. LOL

Hi All,

Sorry for the late reply, have been off grid for a bit. Seeing as they are worth around the $300 mark I think we will just give them to our family friend as he has been very helpful over the years.

As for the camel poop removal I am all out of ideas
