in the third paragraph it states that the two baloons were the same distance from each other???? what does that mean????

Hmm...I interpret it to mean that the distance between them would remain constant due to the minimal wind. :imo:

I understand what you were getting at, Brubincam... it does sound funny... "The calm wind that day would assure that they would remain relatively the same distance from each other during the entire duel." (I think some here missed the "funny"!)

They probably should have changed one word to make the meaning more clear:
"The calm wind that day would assure that they would remain relatively that same distance from each other during the entire duel."

I don't think so. I think Oregon is further away from Penn. than Penn. is from Oregon. After all it gets later the further east i go, so it must be further away. ::

I thinks we all's got WAAAAY too much time on our hands!

... and here I am at WORK! (shhhh) on a Friday night at 10:48 p.m. (Eastern Time)

:eek:ff: :sorry: ... no, I've never had to opportunity to play with a blunderbuss!

And we are all the same diatance away from the main topic...

How about those Blunderbuses?

They are something else, eh? :winking:

Now how can this not be fun to shoot?

anyone have any experience with the Loyalist arms blunderbusses?

great post about the dueling baloonists!

Joe, I got the blunderbuss bug at a young age. At about 15, asked for one for Christmas...it was that highwayman/Irish outlaw thing I found attractive.
Dad bought me one from Dixie Gun Works. It is made in Liege Belgium by Centaure.
I was the only kid on my block with one. I shot it with BB's (yeah, copper Daisy by the handful)and #6 lead shot. I used crumpled up newspaper for wadding.
I tried hunting jack rabbits with it, but the ranges were too far. Impressed the heck out of my friends, though. It was pure hellfire! Peppered many beer cans and other desert debris.
I have now refinished the stock, and plumb-browned the barrel. It is very pretty and my wife lets me display it on the living room bookshelf. Get one.

I just picked up a Loyalist Arms dog lock blunderbuss this past weekend. I went to watch the reenactment of Braddock's Defeat and I could hear it calling me.
I haven't fired it yet. I'm going to do a little reshaping on the stock and dull down the overly polished metal bits.
Overall for the money I really like it.

Eric

You must have been near bedford ,Pa. over the weekend.....
I am browning the lock right now on my 4 bore blunderbuss.I have fired a few blank rounds out of it with 50Ff and a paper towel for a wad.I had to run out onto the range after each shot and stamp out the flames in my used wad...So dry around here....I hope to have fun with it this fall, small game hunting.I got the barrel from vern Davis and the stock from Fred Miller.
I got some balls for it from Bruce at blue grouse each ball weighs around 4 ounces!!! That is a big ball!!!
My stock has been carved with skull and cross bones and I am making skull and cross bones ivory inlays for on it...It is my "pirate" gun.

Yeah, I was in Bedford. I'd like to have the stock look like a naval gun, but short of slapping some sort of tar on it I haven't decided what to do yet.
As for carving/inlay, I was going to go for a simple hourglass motif.

The game warden isn't going to be amused with your 4 bore for small game. The largest legal bore is 10ga for hunting. You might find yourself with out your blaster if the game warden catches you .....
I on the other hand wouldn't mind popping a few bunnies with something like that! :winking:

Hi Mike!
I just checked my Pa. game laws and it only says about muzzleloader shotguns in the different game specs.Under spring gobbler it says, muzzleloading shotguns of all types and guages.....they kind of give us a break here on the smoothbores.now a muzzle-loader rifle can only be 40 cal and smaller for small game....no 45s or 50s anymore...
I hope to hunt some squirrels and grouse and bunnies with it.I have a match-lock and showed to my uncle that is a deputy game warden. He laughs about what I take out hunting and doesnt take me serious.
I think I have a used trade gun that you may have built years ago...Do you sign your guns M.S. Brooks ??
Have a great weekend!
J.J.

I think mine is signed M.S. Brooks.made by someone else.It is a very nice chief's grade trade gun.I bought it used at Ft Frederick several years ago.You have a good weekend.it was nice talking with you.I am going to look around your website now and make a "christmas" wish list.I just wish the economy was better and I had more spending money.... :(
