Good points.
I've seen a young family suffer loosing their father in a hit and run.
I've seen the trauma from an abusive father.

Fortunately for you they no longer add lead to paint.
Hit and runs continue and so does child abuse.

I know one other thing. My wife and daughter would never lose sight of our toddlers long enough for them to ingest anything they should not.
I apologise if my jesting offended. That was not the intention.

Apparently your wife and daughter are far more attentive than the millions of other parents/grandparents, including me, whose children suffer the effects of lead poisoning. Congratulations on their superiority.

I looked for the proper emoticon, but this forum doesn't include the one I was thinking of.

I don’t normally recommend that people get their medical information from the Internet, but,
Go to Google
Search on “Death from lead”.
Notice the number of sources that say lead isn’t so bad for you.
Extra credit: note the number of sources that verify it’s all a conspiracy against gun owners.

I did read an article written by the guy that "discovered" lead used in waterfowl hunting was contaminating and killing ducks, geese and other migrators at an alarming rate. The interesting thing about that particular article was that the author was explaining how it was an anti guns and hunting set up, a wholesale scam from the beginning. Interesting!!!!!

The danger is real. A friend and his wife remodeled their old house, not knowing or paying attention to all the lead paint they were spreading around. Their kid started having mental issues and got tested -- lead levels were sky high. Been on meds and a little "off" ever since.
Called Yuppie syndrome by the Dr.s training us emt's in the city I worked a a FF. Laws were changed so that encapsulation was the method to abate lead paint.

Similar to asbestos paneling on houses. I grew up in a Victorian house. It was wood siding originally, but some time in the 20th C. asbestos paneling was put on the sides to prevent fires jumping from houses less than 20 feet apart in the city. The method to deal with it now is to keep it heavily painted over to avoid cracks that would necessitate removal.

When someone gets offended over a joke it’s their problem not the joke tellers.
We have lots of basic human rights, but living in a world where you never hear anything offensive ain’t one of them

I think you just acknowledged my earlier point, humans do not do well living crowded together. If no cities were ever built, there would be no need for sewage treatment pools that eventually are abandoned so little children could swim in them. And yes, I have swam many times in polluted waters unknowingly only to find out later.

It's ironic that many of the things we point to as being hallmarks of our advancement are solutions made to counter the effects caused by problems of our advancement.

Antibiotics & vaccines -- to counter the effects of higher population density & global travel.
Efficient technology -- to counter the increasing competitiveness of the economy
Heart & blood pressure medicines -- to counter the effects of a sedentary lifestyles, poor diets & higher/continuous stresses
Sewage systems, "clean" energy, Gymns, Urban Planning, Lawyers, Doctors (other than ER), Politicians, Economists...

C. Ryan's book, CIVILIZED TO DEATH, is a pretty good exploration of that idea. I certainly don't want to paint the past with rose colored glasses. But I also don't want to let my vanity do the same to the present. As they say, in 10 years, these will be "the good ol' days."
