What I need to do is save up and get a nice custom Hawken style rifle. Bet then I could get myself to part with the less attractive rifles....

That might work. :D
I often spend the best part of a year saving for a new gun. I dream about it, look at pictures contemplate it
Then about the time I get it I’m thinking of the next

I have to admit that I have accumulated more than I could care for over the years...care for in the sense of safely storing for their own welfare as well as general safety. That aside, when it came time to go on long dreamed of moose hunt...I was easily able to thin the herd to pay for it. And all over again when I went again three years later! And thinned the herd again when I wanted to get my classic HD on the road and get a long coveted Pennsylvania rifle/flintlock. I was actually relieved somewhat after thinning out the gun rack. I had many that hadnt been shot in...decades, and few that were going to be truly missed. It was a great trade for the memories of Newfoundland that I have. and yes, in the interim...the empty slots in the gun rack seem to be filling again...

Those of a certain age remember when gun stores, gun shows, and gun magazines had literally stacks of military surplus firearms. Some were so unpopular they sold them to make floor lamps out of. Kinda. sorta like the skinny girl nobody courted, today she's a super model and those old SMLE's, Mausers, and Garands fetch more than a good used car (ok, not that much, but many times what they used to sell for).

We're seeing the same thing with reproduction M/L's - only faster. Good thing about the internet - parts are easier to find. Bad thing about the internet - prices of parts are sky high. Collecting (maybe hoarding's more accurate) over a lifetime's been fun, but today's prices and increasing scarcity of quality pieces put the brakes on adding to my cache.

It’s fluctuated a lot over the years. I stopped counting when my total hit 180 individual firearms by 21. Not all at the same time. Nothing wrong with trading around until you figure out what you like, right? :ghostly: :thumb:

I got it man....
I got more rifles than I can carry to the range and I just can't bring myself to sell a couple off. Each one has a reason to keep it that equals "wahhh I don't want to" !
And to make matters worse, I find myself making excuses to buy another one.

Seems to be no cure.

Cleaned my guns today just as a preventative maintenance thing. Spouse was commenting I got too many guns. Then I went and spouted off about their increased value in the current market....I shouldn't have said that I think. I saw dollar signs in her eyes. Think I better hide the keys to the gun safe in some other place.

And the meaning of Life is........He with the most Muzzle Loading Gurns .......WINS !

You got it bad.
unlike most addictions MLaholics can not be cured and withdraw cause profound unhappiness and feelings of loss.
Hide your guns, and take your lady out to dinner any time she mentions selling.
Be sure to change the subject first

Nah, just start twitching and give her the Crazy eyes and she'll never mention it again.

Don't sell, pass on the tradition to youth in your extended family. ;)
I am seeing too many old men in our fraternity. That means no future for traditional muzzleloading if we don't change that.

Me, I have no family to pass anything on to, not that it is really possible here in UK. Unless your offspring is already a shooter, that is.

I'm truly blessed, every time I walk through the front door with a new gun my girls says, "oh, another new member of the family".

This being said, I did buy her a pretty swell diamond bracelet some years back. Even the counter clerk commented what a nice gift it was. "DAMN RIGHT" said I, "that would have made a pretty nice elk hunting trip."

I just finished my final build. Then, while reading the M/L Forum, I started thinking about making another "final build". Yikes! No cure for this affliction.

You and I both brother, I'm still working on my Chambers Isaac Haines ML and already shopping around for a new kit to work on. Problem is being a "Molly Duker" (left hander) I'm always cruelly limited as to whats available.

How can one quantify their "addiction" to their spouse. I simply tell her that "I'm investing in her retirement fund", that does the trick...

Do your best to never let the wife know how many guns you have and what they are worth. When I got divorced I went from a 55 gun collection down to only 4 guns.

Good advice, I went through a property settlement 6 years ago and thankfully she didnt make a fuss about my Firearm ownership, I was damn lucky.
