Sure, I'll bet San Antone's a pretty big place. THere's a muzzleloading enthusiast and expert living in that town by the name of John Hinnant. would you happen to know him? He could tell you all about the provenance of my rifle. He's best friends with Bruce Winders. I'm bringing it down for both of them to look at next March 5,6,and 7th during the Alamo festivities. You're welcome to have a look at it too then.

Hmmmmmm,............funny you should mention that.I remember a Mr. John Hinnant sending me a pm to come down and say Hi.
And like an idiot, I forgot all about it.

When you guys get together again, I'll come down for sure. I'd like to see your rifle, and show you my Lancaster and LOTM rifle too. I hope I can meet all of ya'll down there.........and this time I wont forget. :nono:

Good! I'll send you a heads up when March comes around and I'll get your contact information. John will be having a Shoot Fest as he does every year right after the Dawn Ceremony which is held in front of the Alamo. All of the folks who bring their muzzleloaders get together at a range down there and have at it. I believe you certainly fit into that catagory! You'll get a chance to attend some of the other Alamo gatherings then too and maybe the Symposium if you've time. John's ancestor fought against Santa Anna and so he's a member of some society that's composed of Alamo and San Jacinto veteran's decendants. An interesting man to know. :)
Back to the subject of barrel length, has anyone ever seen any original long rifles with 47" barrels or longer? If so, how long were they and who made the rifles and about when?

I have a .45 cal with a swamped Colerain and it's a great shooter. I have to lay it across the front seat between the back rests to carry it but the shooting is worth it. I have a fiberglass rod that I use both for cleaning and as a range rod by Tipton. A 13 year old girl loves to shoot it and she does it well even though she has to stand on a stool to load it.
Cleaning isn't a problem. First take the lock off and take it to the bathroom. Run water as hot as it gets over it and scrub it with Hornadys' and a stiff brush. Then rinse with the hot water and let the water heat the lock. Dry with a hair drier. The hot lock and hot air will dry all the nooks and crannies of the lock.
Scrub the barrel with Hornadys and a fiber or plastic bore brush. Scrub good and hard. Then rinse the barrel with very hot water in a ketchup dispensing plastic bottle. Let the water run out the touch hole. (Catch the water in a shallow pan if you're inside and the wife is watching) when you have run the whole bottle of water through the bore run a dry patch down the bore. If it comes out clean, and if often does, run an oiled patch and replace the lock. Your done. Repeat until you get a clean patch.
