i just had my favorite uncle hand me down a T/C white mountain carbine in .50 cal.which has a 20 inch barrel in a 1:20 twist. i have started using 320 grain maxi balls directly on top of 90 grains ffg goex. this load seems fairly accurate. can anyone give me pointers on a better load. patches, bullet type weight, powder charge, etc. soon as spring hits and i take it to the bench to find my dream load any good imput will save me $$$$$$$$$ thanks.

The twist is way too fast for roundballs, you would want 1:40 or slower for them, so don't worry about the patches...

I suggest longer bullets, it appears that your gun may be rifled for the use of sabots with modern bullets...

Now I'm not saying it can't shoot patched round balls, trial and error will tell...

My friend has one and it shoots the 430g either buffalo or deadcenters really good. It is a heavy bullet so he lowers the charge to about 80g of powder. Hope this helps.

That rifle will also shoot sabots well. Try a 265-300g .429 bullet in a sabot made for 44mag bullets you will be surprized.

Hint don't ever use bullets with a poly tip if you have to pull the bullet that would really screw you up.

Congrats on your getting a WMC. These are fine MLs. Did you know that the later WMC's had a 1 in 38" twist? Yours must be an earlier one. T/C Break-O-Way Sabots, with a Hornady, XTP, in 250, or 300 grain .452 bullet work well in these. I use FFFG Goex, and FFFG Pinnacle in my WMC's. I would start with 70 grains of either, and work up.
