For those here that shoot patched roundballs, which camp are you in for best accuracy.....

Larger ball and thinner patch?

Or

Smaller ball and thicker patch?

Thanks for your thoughts, Skychief

If you read several BP boards, some guys don't use a patch and claim as good accuracy, or better. Some use wads, some bare ball.

Smoothies are a lot more forgiving then rifleguns. You may find several that work best. Wad only no patch works the same for me at 25 yards as prb.And works with hunting accuracy at 50. Prb is easier to load in cold weather for me( below freezing) Prb was invented maybe as early as 1500, and well known 2 centuries later, but waded loads remained common for smoothies till suppository guns became common.

A WW ball at .606" is about as fat as I can get. Still seems to shoot respectably at 50 yards.

I've always preferred a thin ball and thick patch. Much easier to load in a dirty bore. Unfortunately not all of my guns thought the same. Let your individual arm tell you its preference, if you listen it will tell you...
