You understand that PC as used in these discussions means Period Correct, not Politically Correct, I'm sure. I hope everyone does.

Yep...just too good to get away and always comes to mind when any "correctness" gets tossed out! :haha:

As for hats, most surviving examples I've seen were raw edges that hadn't been stitched. Nicer grade hats with tape on the edges would be different, but I can't see a lot of those being worn around the woods and prairies. You might tye getting in touch with a few of the folks who do period hats, surely they could give you the right skinny!

I'm all for a person who wants all of their clothing, guns and accutrements to be as authentic as possible, but that is that individuals choice and interest___not everyone's choice.
Agreed and all the OP asked for was, "a good instruction on or video on getting from blank to hat.", not a history of hat making. :haha:

I saw a video put out by Akubra (somewhat well-known maker of hats in Australia) that showed the process of making hats in their factory. http://www.akubra.com.au/akubra-hats-history-video.html

It maybe of some use, although their hats are made from rabbit fur.

As an aside, when I bought my first hat the salesman told me that the oldtimers in the bush used to smoke their hats over a eucalyptus fire to waterproof them.
