I've received some 1/8" wool felt wads that I'm going to experiment with. But first, a couple of questions.

I lubed some by putting them in a shallow puddle of melted Moose Snot and letting them saturate. This resulted in some very greasy wads. Is this OK? Or should I warm them up again and queeze out some of the lube? Will heavily-greased wads adversely affect the powder load after a while (a day or two)?

Do any of you use wads lubed with evaporated Moose Milk (dip and dry)?

Finally, how much pressure should I use when seating the ball and wad over the powder? I normally put enough pressure on the ball to feel the powder crunch a little. (I'm shooting a .54 percussion GPR.)

I'll share my opinions based on my experience with 1/8" prelubed Oxyoke wool wads.

If the lube you're using has no adverse effect on powder, then being a little more greasy than normal won't matter...neither Natural Lube 1000 nor Hoppes #9 PLUS bothers powder and I've used wads / patches wet with them.

I seat my PRB the same way...consistently until I hear the powder crunch, with or without wads, and enjoy excellent accuracy, consistency, etc.

(Others mileage may vary of course)

The only time I use felt wads is with a maxi to prevent blow-by.If I have a properly patched RB I won't need the wad.

Never tried felt wads?? When I put moose products on a fiber wad I use a 1/8" dry overpowder wad to seperate them. I think you will get lube leaching into the powder if you put a soaked felt pad on top of it.

Only the part touching the barrel (with any wad or patch) really needs the lube. Felt is usually a cushion to protect shot or the base of conicals, or seal a revolver chamber.

But experimentation is good!

I use home cut felt wads under the patched ball, and just grease [moose snot] the side of the wad that is against the ball. I carry pre-loaded cylinders, so all I have to do is put it over the bore and push it in with a short starter. My patches look good enough to use again.

I have used Moose Juice on felt wads before but I loaded a overpowder card first. The Moose Juice did end up evaporating out of the felt on the ones that have been sitting in the tin. Melted Crisco or olive oil works well too.
