I don't see a lock bolt on the opposite side of the lock, how are you holding the lock in place?
 
Scott, the lock bolt goes through the plate from the outside into a tapped hole in side of the standing breech of the barrel. The cock is hiding it. At least that is how Ferguson locks are usually attached.

Sc45-70: How many grains does your powder chamber hold? And what caliber is it?

The barrel is 50 caliber and shoots .530 ball. the chamber holds 80 grains of 2f.

The bore is .500 the grove is .532 the chamber is .563, you need a ball larger than the bore or it would roll down the barrel when you loaded the rifle. The same principal as a cartridge firearm, when fired the ball will be forced into the rifling.
