A look at Fess Parker's "Davy Crockett" rifle from the TV and movie series courtesy of Joe Musso.

I like I like

Can you give us some stats.

What cal is it, overall weight, length of bore

Can I have it?

I too grew up with "Davy" in the 1950's. Do you remember his side-kick played by Buddy Ebson? I was in Los Angeles, CA back in the ealy 1980's and met Buddy at the hotel coffee shop counter. We both had a hamburger and a cup of coffee. Of course I had to ask him about the guns in the early series. He didn't have much information except to say that most were simply prop guns, including the famous Springfield Trapdoors made to look like a flintlock. He even told me he remembered a couple ORIGINAL trpdoors that were cut down to make pistols! :shocked2: Anyway, thanks for the rifle pics Davy. Great.

Yeah, thanks Davy. I grew up watching that series when I was a pup, too. Me and my brother had coon skin caps and a couple of springfield rifles that we played with. We were real life woodsmen fer sure. We terrorized the timber. Good memories!

I can still sing the song but wife won't let me. :( I do it in my shop (where she never ventures) while playing with one of my flintlocks. How cool it would be to handle that gun !!!

Claude. Thankyou ever so much! that is just too kewl. Man that brings back memories. That is just great. I haven't heard some of that since they went off the air. It's like being a kid again for a moment. Thanks again.

By the way ... the Fess rifle was a sweet rifle to handle .. about 7-8 lbs I think .. slender and smooth .. a pleasure to shoulder too! About 50 cal if I remember correctly. That is Fess who signed it for Mr. Musso!:shocked2:

Davy

That gun sure reminds me of Hacker Martin's work. He got most of his odds and ends from Turner Kirkland. The hammer looks like the ones off those horse-pistols Dixie used to sell.

The one Hacker Martin rifle that I know of that Joe Musso had in his collection ...
one of two different rifles Wayne used in the film "The Alamo". Sorry I did not
get a better picture ... but I ran out of time, and I also did not wanna dismantle his
Wayne "Alamo" display to capture it.

Mule....Remember what Buddy Epson said after that shot???

"That's the kind of shootin' that'll make the ol' possum squeal..."
