I just drop them in a jar of mix for about 10 seconds, or till the quit bubbling or sink.[some float]

Remove and pinch tight [over jar] to remove access lube. I have some sitting in the jar for about 6 months or so, they seem to be fine.

Nito card, lubed wad, ball or shot, then over card.

This lube is quite self cleaning.

Thanks for the "how to" tip, this will help our "new to smoothbore" members...

One other thing, when you squeeze them, do the change diameter from being compressed and will they accordion back into shape once relaxed?

Never noticed any real difference in size or shape.

You wand to pinch them hard enough to get most of the 'drippy' lube off, but not hard enough too make them 'dry'. Kind of a trial and error thing.

Shoot ... dip em in the lube .. put em in a glass jar... seal it with a lid and put it out in your car in the hot Texas sun for a day or three .. I guaran-dog-tee ya they will be well soaked in by then .. thats the way I was taught to lube my patches and it works real well!

You do pinch them from the top and bottom, not the sides............. :shocked2:

Don't presoak fiber wads in liquid !! I had some like that and the fibers absorbed the moisture and swelled up.

Maybe soaking is too much :hmm:

I put the wads in a zip top plastic bag, squirt in a bit dilute Murphys, seal it and by the next day it's all evened out. They are all equally damp and none of them are wet. Works like magic

As soon as I'm loaded I'll stick the wad for the next shot in my mouth and keep it there until I'm ready to shoot again. Must work, I've won a bunch of trap shoots using spit wads. So simple.

"Spit wads" :rotf: I used to shoot those when I was a kid! BTW, I used to do that when I was shooting my old Hawken.

It's funny what people will do when they get loaded. Is the wad in the mouth to help disguise the slurred speach?? :rotf:

I lude mine with bear grease. I heat some in a bowl in the microwave, then, holding a wad between my thumb and middle finger, dip the edge and roll the wad with my index finger to lube the edge. They then go into a tobacco tin. The edge is all that really needs to be lubed but after a bit, the oil migrates throughout the whole wad anyway. same thing as useing crisco I suspect, just that BG is free. When carrying them in my upland shooting bag, I made a compartment that is treated with bees wax. Otherwise, the oil will migrate into the leather. Adding bees wax, as some do with crisco, may prevent this by stiffening up the lube but never tried it. No need to keep them in a sealed container as I've never had them dry out.

Very interesting, this soaking of wads.
These fiber wads I thought were cushion wads. As such, if you soak them don't they obtain the characteristics of a solid much more?
When I tried it once I felt they were blowing a hole in my paterns.
I've since gone with a card, then a fingerful of lube, and anouther card with a cushion (fiber) over that and found myself having better paterns and managable fouling for repeated shooting.
In (my) theory the lube gets compressed between the cards and through hydraulic action coats the bore when fired. Just a theory, but it works.
(an alternate $0.02)

I tried that too, and it worked really good. I intend to use cushion wads for RB shooting, as my Fusil fouls quite a bit near the muzle with just a patched RB. Tried this last weekend, and the fouling problem disappeared, and accuracy was very good. (offhand at steel targets).

I cheated and bought the pre-lubed wads. Won't be shooting thousands of rounds, so the small added expense is fine with me.

With round balls, I use a nito card/ lubed wad/ bore size ball/ over powder card........the 50/50 lube of veggie oil and mineral spirits really cleans well.
