If the funnel is larger than the hole to be filled just take a rifle cartridge case 22 , 243 whatever, cut the head off. stick the funnel in the large end and you have a small funnel.

This may sound a little crude, but I just wrap my index finger and thumb tightly around the end of the horn and this forms a small funnel into wich I pour the powder. Most of My horns have a 5/16" hole.I also use this technique to fill My shot horns, saves fooling around with a funnel. Also I'd advise against useing a lit match or lighter to chechk the amount of powder in the horn :: :hmm:

I suspect that this is how most people filled their horns in the past. I usually roll up any old piece of paper into a cone and pour.

Back in the old days, it probably wouldn't be a stretch to think that somebody thought to use a small horn or horn tip as a funnel...

Havn't you guys got that horn filled yet?

It's taken you all week!

you must be doing it one grain at a time!

Ah, the modern woodsman. We need a specialized tool for everything.

What we need is a good combination "patch knife/short starter/powder funnel".
