Finally got to burn some powder in my 1851 navy

Then six more for a total of 12 shots.

54 rounds later not a single cap jam or misfire.. this is all 54 rounds on the steel!!! I did replace the dot a few times as it blew off. I think I could have shot better not on pain medication for a broken collarbone and only one handed..BTW loading with one hand was a pain in the A$$ lol can't wait to roll some paper cartridges. I love it!

Uberti the load was using the Eras Gone colt conical and PJs 3F powder used a 10mm case for a measure.

Thanks. My London Navy never shot that well, it's got an overly large forcing cone. I'm going to line the barrel, I'm hoping for accuracy like yours.
Say, when you have the barrel off, could you take a picture of the forcing cone and post it here? That would be a big help.

I’ve been considering buying one of those molds. Never have shot a conical but want to give them a try.

What sort of grease do you use in the groove?

I used bear tallow and beeswax. I have also used beeswax, Murphys oil, and olive oil.

Yesterday, Colt .31, slixshot, modified hammer groove, Rem 11, fired 50 rounds, no cap jams.
My .36 Navy is about the same.

I purchased a new Uberta 1851 Colt Navy from a gentleman on this site, should be delivered on this Monday. Have a friend (gunsmith) that works on black powder revolvers.

1. First thing: he will mick the cylinder holes, using the largest diameter he will ream the 5 other holes to the largest size.
2. Second thing: he will install a "Wire bolt spring for reliability (Midway Sporting Goods).
3. Third thing: installation of "Slixshot" nipples which use #11 caps.
4. Fourth thing: a custom action job.
5. Fifth thing: depending on the bore size as to whether .375 swaged balls will work or may have to get a custom mold for a larger size ball.

We have used this method to several black powder revolvers over the years and found they shot better than the cartridge guns. Should be a fun project ...

I am starting to think is the right process...unless you want to become a muzzlesmith.

Lol..factory nipples and homemade #10s made out of brass sheet can't remember the thickness but they are very sturdy. Most of the time they stayed on the nipple.
