The T7 FF may be too coarse .... that actually makes sense. I will try to pick up some FFF prior to my next outing. A few grains of fff followed by my normal charge. Hmmmm
The flame channel seems to be clear. I will check the nipple fit for interference. I did use two different nipple last outing. One was the stock nipple and the other was from TOW.

PS: Black Powder is a tough find in Commiefornia. Too many restrictions and requirements ... :td:

Update time. Been a while.
Using Tripple 7 FF
Ended up opening the nipple to a number 50 gauge bit. Not nearly as many FTF. I am still learning. Make sure the patch is equal around the ball. I can "feel" a good seal when I squeeze the trigger. 😀
Swab the barrel every few shots. Clean the nipple hole often. I am enjoying the 1861.
I did finally find a local source for holy black. I will switch back to a nipple with the regular sized nipple hole prior to using BP. I now have unlubed patches. Still working on getting proper bedding material to make my own.

Go to a fabric store and ask for pillow ticking or cotton drill. Get a yard and cut into strips a bit wider than the bore then cut at the muzzle. No more trying to center the ball in the patch!

If you ever trek to Lancaster, The Gun Shop in that town carries black powder. It's on Sierra Highway. Call before you make the trip (661)942-8377) since they are out of stock at times.

Think I might have found the problem. If you look at the extracted ball closely, the breech side has been flattened. Would this happen if there was powder present. I may have pulled a rookie mistake.

It ain't just for newbies. Also happens to "veteran" rookies
