Howdy fellers,
I took a mental health day off of work Friday and got to play in the garage. After draw filing the barrel and polishing the lock, I started the browning process using Homer Dangler browning solution. Here are the before pics:
After about 4 treatments. I doused the parts with oil to arrest the rusting process:
Here's the lock. I only browned the parts of the screws that would be exposed:
I also worked on the stock. I'm done with carving, now on to clean up:
A little decorative incised doodad on the lower fore stock....
That's where we're at. Thanks to all for the browning and carving tips. As I said, it's just clean up now! I'm using the Homer Dangler dye for the stock, which is alcohol based, so it doesn't raise the grain. I have wet down and sanded the stock once just for giggles. I'll start polishing and browning the trigger assembly this weekend. Also, I just started thinking that I may want to get me some black powder
Also, I apologize for the work bench. I started piling stuff all over it and soon after I began to have involuntary convulsions, ticks, twitches, dizziness and blurred vision. I quickly cleared it back off, and systems returned to normal..... :rotf:
