Finally got my first gun build completed as of today. Been working my arse off on it since I got the kit at Dixon's Gunmakers Fair in late July, really pleased with how it's turned out. Got to give tons of credit to the fellas at Choptank Muzzleloaders that have been helping me with it, they've sped up my learning curve by years.

It's not PC, but it's me! .45 caliber, started with an Armstrong style kit, 42" Colerain bbl, M&G lock. Carved a sika stag into the stock, engraved a bit to make my evil moon, carved stag tracks up under the forearm, lots of little touches to make her my sika rifle. Now I've just got to convince myself to carry her out in the marsh and the mud and the kayak to go hunting! :youcrazy:

Also here's a link to the thread I kept on the build for the guys on my local hunting site, it's about 4 pages long... http://www.buckwild2006.probo...&action=display&thread=1185674283&page=1

Looking good Osprey, turned out real nice! The carving turned out well!
Curious about the carving though why a Sika, instead of a Deer or Buffalo, or any other North American species? :hmm:

Thanks for all the compliments, I'm still very pumped about this and spending way to much time staring at and fondling the gun. This site has been one of the big helps in getting it done.

Awww, every body hunts them things! :blah: It's one of the main things I hunt here in the Maryland salt marshes, tough little buggers that scream like high pitched elk, rut a month before the whitetails, taste awesome and take me to some incredible places in pursuit. Here's a bit about them in another thread... http://www.muzzleloadingforum.com/fusionbb/showtopic.php?tid/209799/

I'll have her out for almost a full week October 15-20th chasing them. Just hope I don't drop her in the muck or the saltwater!!! :shocked2:

Yup, shot her a week before I finished it! Here's 25 yards on a 5.5" target. At 50 it opened up to 3" or so group, but it was only the second time I'd ever shot a flintlock. Lots to learn...

I like the look but it became more beautiful when I saw that target. :shocked2: :shocked2: Its a keeper.

Five more days and the targets will have fur and antlers! Just hafta find one that matches the big boy on the stock.
