Mine was a .50 Pedersoli Kentucky I got from Cabelas. Takes deer fine etc. It was a pain to get it to spark reliably, but it does so now. Its been pretty much relegated to the wall since I built my own So. Colonial .54.

Actually I have been thinking about stripping it down and removing some wood and doing some carving and then refinishing it.....just cause it looks so much like a baseball bat! :haha:

My first flinter was a .54 cal Cabela's Hawken kit gun. Built it mostly just to see if I had the rudimentary skills to do it. The next one was a .50 cal Blue Ridge. Still have both. Then I ran into a builder at a rendezvous who had some real nice pieces for sale. Didn't buy one then but did call him a few days after returning from the rondy and ordered one custom built for me, .45 cal 42" barrel with lots of carving and inlays, also had him build it with interchangeable flint and percussion locks. Next one will be built by me. I think I'm ready. The last two (the custom and the one I'm going to build) will go to my son, hopefully in 20 or more years from now.

My first flintlock was a 45 cal Spanish kit I put together in 1973. I was very proud of the effort then and it still shoots good.

My first flinter was a Pedersoli/ Dixie Pennsylvania rifle gun in .45 , not a bad piece, but once I bought my first "real" flinter I sold the Dixie and have no regrets.
