Hunting buddy's chilling at the bank of the river after a push.
I am the only flint shooter in camp...they were patient while I reloaded.
Birds were holding tight.....just a week early on the woodcock migration.

Life is Good!

MS, that is all just outstanding !
The hunts, the photos, the memories...excellent!
:hatsoff:

Your hunts are definitely in Utopia....and using a fowler just exemplifies your wing shooting abilities.

When a woodcock flight come in....some of the best wing shooting ever. Fast and furious.

Thanks for posting....brings back a lot of memories.....Fred

b-list------flint N grouse------check!---Amen!

Dan...did you retire? I thought I had a lot of vacation!

Great to see you're getting out there on a variety of hunts.

After we shot together I knew you had no problem poking round balls all into the same hole in the target, but obviously your wingshooting matches that!

As usual excellent pictures too! Absolutely gorgeous country!

Spike! Thank's That's whats happens when you get old! HaHa!

This was not easy to do....
Just got lucky on some birds that decided to fly my way instead.
Dogs are a must with black powder after the shot.

Good job! I've never known a flintlock hunter to harvest two woodcock in one outing; but they're fairly scarce hereabouts. That's fine shooting.

Grouse hunting with flintlock fowlers is the best. My dog is hopeless as a birder (Kerry Blue Terrier) but then his trainer ain't no great shakes. ;-)

When I'm carrying a gun he walks behind me. No fool that dog.

When the woodcock are down(migrating) we will have lots of shooting opportunities.
4 of the 4 guys I hunted with are 200% dog nuts!
One trains for a living..
If it wasn't for the dog work this would have not happened.Period!
It was a struggle..shooting wise....I had to get twice as far ahead of these birds than normal. No kidding...it also helped that at times in thick tall cover the birds would fly straight up..then out. Just enough for me to get on them.Barely!
It was also after the shot that the dogs shinned...we try to hunt 20-30 yds apart..having another set of eyes on the flying target helped.
The birds that had low cover and were fired out of a catapult just laughed at me.
I had lots of shooting...I was batting about .085%HaHa!
We hunted 6- 8 hrs a day...sometimes less depending on the air temp.
My partners were conscious of their dog's physical condition.
Its a physical hunt..and you better have good foot wear...
We hit 2 warm days..the deer ticks were thick..

This place is a slice of heaven!..Glad I got to visit!

That's awesome. Great terrain.

I was already kicking myself over getting hurt and having to cancel on an invite for Grouse in MI this year with the MLs. Now I'm REALLY upset.

This is my 33rd season......1st with flintlock.
They will be there next year too!
