Not a fancy one but I bought a Traditions Frontier 50 cal, set triggers, 28" barrel from a guy at the gunshow yesterday for $275 he tells me he just bought it from Traditions on sale but changed his mind and needs money for something else.

Not yet no flints but I do have them on order, I'm going to try 3F in the flashpan as I don't have any 4F and I can't buy it locally.

Good purchase  , I have one too. It was also my first flint. I have about a 1K of shots or so down now.
At first I was using the flint with the edge pointing down, as it wore in a bit the frizzen had taken a divot to the face, after truing it up a bit, I now use the edge up where the flint strikes high, works much better now.

Get in touch with a fellow member here for some flints, Rich Pierce, http://www.muzzleloadingforum.com/fusionbb/showuser.php?uid/1953/ he makes them, they are quite well done and priced well.

U can load/prime using just fffg, in fact its well suited to this size.
I load 70gr fffg/.490 lead ball/.018"tho prelubed patch, I also put a bit of bore butter to help with fouling; I get about an inch or so at 50yrds.

Also one last thing, I would strongly suggest u get a range rod for this rifle. The "ram rod" they give u, I think is for decoration, its as strong as a wet noodle. My range rod I made, is a steel 1/4" rod about 6" longer than the barrel with the last 6" bent 90deg for a grip, with the opposite threaded end for a brass rammer head, I also made a bore guide to protect the muzzle. The factory one can be used in a pinch, I have when I have forgotten the range rod :cursing:, but for the most part it is better used for cleaning IMO.
Good luck on the new buy, let us know hows it comming.  :hatsoff:

Have a dozen flints on order from Rich Pierce, haven't even cleaned the rifle yet.

The positioning of flints that the rifle will like varies with each rifle. Though they may have the very same lock, they will often show a preference for bevel up or bevel down.

Yes my 1st flintlock, evrything else has been percussion or BPCR have always waanted to try flintlocks but the budget really wasn't set up for one.

Let us know how it goes. But, beware, you are going to find that flintlock shooting is addictive. Its all I want to shoot anymore and many others here will tell you the same.
