Hello all, thought i would share my first lyman great plains rifle build. .54 cal flint lock i think i turned out nice. used LMF bluing on the iron. built rust chamber out of an old refrigerator and used a 2" pvc pipe for the conversion chamber with boiled distilled h2o. stock finish is from local lumber yard, something called old tyme oil or something like that in a red quart can. have used it on three stocks so far and really like it. i have since changed flint to english flints from TOTW. i scrapped the leather wrap and used lead instead. touchhole is opened to 1/16" and have been priming with 3f and main charge 3f. barrel is a 66" twist so it is PRB have not had time on target but have shot into spoilpile just for fun several shots already and lock seems to be quick with no slow hang, but i don't really know until i get on target and see. it is an awesome fun rifle hope to draw muzzleloader whitetail in ND some year.
