Here's a pic of my first attempt at horn making along with a new bag I made for my new squirrel gun.

The horn came from an old Mexican mount that my grandpa picked up at a flea market when I was a youngun. I did all the filing and carved the plugs at work while we were slow. The wood is pine that came from a cheap pallet. I carved 'em with my pocket knife.

The bag is the first one I've made since I got T.C. Alberts book "Recreating the 18th Century Hunting Pouch". There's some good tips in there. Kinda vague on a couple things, but a good book. I got the pattern for this bag from the book, except for the stuff I changed...

I'm gonna go out shootin' tomorrow with my new Stroh-built .36, new horn, new bag...

Good work, sir!

I agree with your comments on Albert's book. I have yet to build a bag from his patterns, but have gone so far as to trace and cut one of the patterns out, but I doubt I'll build the bag. It's just too small for me.

I have the same habit of scrounging around at work looking for stuff to convert into buckskinning gear. We have a small carpenter's shop where we build our pallets and skids and I raid the scrap box quite frequently. Word to the wise, though. Pine pallet parts used to make a loading block just don't hold up too well. LOL.

That looks like a nice kit! good job!

...if it were mine, and folks asked me how I like it(if it were mine), I would proudly tell them all..." it pleases me!"

I just finished one of Albert's patterns for a bag I made. All I did was blow his pattern up on a copy machine to about 125 percent to make it the size I like, which is about 8in x 8 inches. You could make em bigger, I guess, but if you make them big then you end up carrying stuff in it that you don't need.

Thank you for the kind remarks. :)

The bag is a bit on the small side, but it's really just right if you don't carry a bunch of stuff you really don't need to. In the pic that bag is full of all the stuff I need for 75 shots... except a powder measure... I figgered that out when I went shootin' today.  Soon as I dial in a load, I'll attach an antler tip measure to he bag. I thought I put an adjustable one in there last night tho.

Now I just need one more new thing for this rifle kit... a new ramrod. Yep, I broke it. :(

What are you a guerrilla? :rotf: I didn't think it was possible to break a Stroh ramrod. :haha:

It was a bought one....  Didn't have major run out, but I guess it was enough... a 42" 5/16" ramrod has a lot of opportunity to break... this new one is a bunch different.. and will be in the mail in the mornin...
