First muzzleloader

Been looking to buy my first smokepole for quite some time now, and patience paid off. Was able to pick up this Hawken style rifle at a local gun shop. It' s a .50 cal 34" douglas barrel, L&R lock and triggers.

I'm in LOVE! Beautiful! Rarely do you see a custom built halfstock with such straight lines. Says alot about the skill of the builder.

I also wonder if you have any idea who built it, or any other history pertaining to the rifle. L&R started in the early to mid 90's I believe, But by that time Douglas barrels were not being made anymore. Going by the overlap in parts availability, I'm guessing your rifle was built sometime in the mid 90's. Any name stamped or engraved on the barrel or lock?

Thanks for all the kind words folks. I wish I could give you some more information about it, unfortunately that's all I've got. There's no name stamped or engraved anywhere on the thing unfortunately, and the place I bought didn't have anything more to tell me about it either. Still haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, soon as I do I'll let y'all know how it works out.

nice rifle , but I'm thinking you must have some arms on you to hold it on target . I'm new to BP and just got a Investarms hawkins with 28" barrel and first time fire yesterday it surprised me at the weight it has . helps in the recoil but guess I'll be needing to get a bar bell build some strenghth

I've always remembered buying my .50 Hawken in 1969 (ser # 2***), but research indicates TC didn't start making them until 1970. Anyway it was my first and I still have it.
