First shooting bag

Finished up my first attempt at a shooting bag, and think it turned out pretty good! 3-4 Oz veg tan leather, dyed with home made traditional vinegaroon, and hand sewn with linen thread. Iron buckle was hand forged by me. Attached is my southern banded horn made for me by Harris Maupin, which I think fits the bag nicely. Also Has a horse hair brush and vent pick both attached using hand made steel wire chain. still need to make a powder measure but need to work up a charge for my new rifle first!

Huh..., ..., that's right nice. I wrote "huh" 'cause my first tries are usually poor results.

So..., you may want to wash the strap and the bag with saddle soap using a piece of old wool blanket to scrub, to get residual black dye out of the leather, IF it hasn't been treated yet with water proofing or boot grease. I point this out as I've seen guys with black straps that didn't do this and when it rained.... or when they sweated hard... black dye ran onto their hunting shirts.

I don't think the vinegaroon will rub off, since it is a reagent and not a dye.

I got caught in a sudden downpour while wearing a big old black cowboy hat one time. It was a nice one, too... A Bailey. That thing dripped black dye all over me.

Sorry to digress. You did a nice job on the pouch!

I always liked the heart shaped shot pouches , where loose balls , go to the point in the bottom. That's an old idea.
