A buddy of mine has the same rifle. He had to file away 2/3 of the front sight get it centered. Once he did that it is a tack-driver!

Make sure you shoot it from a bench rest first, and determine exactly where it is shooting before you start filing.

Have fun!

Pguy---That is great!

Yes fun is number one with real black powder and flintlocks!

The 25 yard starting point is sage advice.

The cardboard box is excellent target as is the old political signs. I spray paint them white and tape a small "X" for a bulls-eye. Makes it extra easy to see where the round ball holes are.

The other thing is you will probably find that LESS pan powder results in even FASTER ignition. which helps with even better accuracy. Try it. Try less pan powder than you think you may need next time you go to the range. The first time I tried it I was astonished. Pleasantly.

Welcome aboard! Like others said, you will become addicted and there is no antidote.

went yesterday with my trade gun to work up loads. played with 65 and 70 grain loads and the lighter loads were touching when i did my part. at the range i go to the first and second ranges you can move up and down to get the distance you want.range 1 is leased to the leo for training and i was laughing to myself as i picked up a 223 cartridge they failed to pick up. this morning they are scratching their heads wondering what cannon left those huge holes in the almost new backboards. lol

HAHahahaha!!!

Yes that is one of the deposits we big ball shooters love to ponder: The look of alarm on the faces of the modern "P" shooters when they see the targets we "treated"!

My one piece of advice, settle on your final load, powder, weight, granule size, ball size and patch thickness, before you do any major filing, and file a very little bit at a time. Load can dramatically affect POI.

Also, if you ae looking at adding an adjustable rear sight or arperature do that before you start working on the front site. You can buy a new front site if you over do it on this one or add silver sodder to re-extend the height of the front site but it is a bit of a pain in the butt.

Have fun with the gun.
