Hey guys,
Hot on the heels of a few pre-christmas debates on flint leathers and such,I got a stoopid question.Has anyone ever heard tell of gluing the Leather on the flint?I aint trying to make things more difficult but seems to me if a guy had a few flint wraps glued on in place for your spare flints while hunting or even at the range that it would be a practical thing.Keep in mind I'm not concerned with PC."Not that there's anything wrong with being PC"(To steal a line from Seinfeld) :v

Just couldn't let it drop could ya? :rotf: Yes, ya can glue the stinking leather to the lousy flint. There ya happy? Now we can get into a 4 page debate on the type of glue to use. :rotf:

Gotta be Beaver tail glue mixed with hardwood ash.

TG,
  I like to see your documentation?
I'm going to argue and say a Dob of 2minute epoxy is the way to go. :hmm:

Halftail, it works great. Use a two part, 5 minute epoxy, or some "gel" type crazy glue. A little dab will do ya, so to say. And furthermore ya don't need a "WRAP", just a couple of square pieces to cover the flats.. Now I know ya got some flints with good flats!!

...couldn't ya just drill and tap the flint with, oh, maybe a 10-32 and secure the leather with a screw?... ya never know how those glues are gonna take changes in temperature and humidity... better use lots of oil on the tap, cause that silica is damn hard... :blah: ...

How about using real "leather glue"? Designed for and tested with chrome-tanned cowhide. Unsure about its use with brain tanned leather, elk or, God forbid, pig hide. Sold in 1/2 gal bottles so you might want to consider sharing with other shooters. $51.95 + s&h from Tandy. LOL

I carry a glued flint in bp deer season as an extra. Worked fine when I used it once.

That's what I was thinking on having a couple extra with the leathers glued one in case of a quick change in the woods.
Not too sure though if I need a Half gallon of glue or not.
