Do any of you folks know the name of the process for making small minute dimpling on the surface of the jaws on a flintlock? I think it is used for better grip on the leather. Also is there a special tool, and name of it. It gives me the feeling of tiny teeth as you rub across it.

I just use the corner on a piece of 1/4" square tool steel about 2" long. Most locks today have some sort of ridging already.

Hi,
Here is how I do it using a round bottomed die sinker's chisel. A round bottomed graver works fine but you could also sharpen a small round pin punch.

Take an small worn 3 corner file and grind the tip at approximately 45 degree angle then smooth up the sides and use that to raise some burrs on the top and bottom jaws or just the top - your choice :thumb:
