I have a 50cal Traditions Hawken percussion , left handed that I wanted to swap over to flintlock. This has become a seemingly impossible task. I cant find a lefthanded flintlock mechanism for this model anywhere, including from traditions

I have to agree with cowboy on this one. I personally don't like tinkering with rifles that both function well and are in really good condition, it usually ends up giving you a first class ticket on the bad time express. Good luck.

Are the sights plastic? That would be the only thing I would change if they are.

Also, please correct me if I am wrong as I am by no means an expert on Hawken history, but it is my understanding that the Hawken came about as a transitional design generically speaking and most originals by and large were percussion? Thank you.

The short answer, don't do it.

The longer answer, Traditions/Jukar/CVA uses a machine installed breech and drum assembly that is difficult at best to covert. Secondly once converted you will have Traditions quality which in flint is pot luck.
Just buy or build a good quality flintlock rifle in left hand.

I think it is a nice rifle as is. If you only want a flintlock, you can sell that one, and use the money to buy a flinter, then swap in an L&R drop in lock, get that thing shootin real good. You will end up miles ahead in satisfaction alone. Those guns have good barrels on them, give them a good lock to set them off, and you have a winner.

Please note that as a followup I am not modifying this rifle and currently a custom left-handed rifle with flintlock ignition is being assembled.
