SOLD Flintlock for Sale

I have for sale a flintlock that unfortunately I do not know a whole lot about. The set triggers work perfectly, sparks well, and is in overall great condition. The hole in the stock might have been a spot for patch box, unsure. Someone mentioned that it maybe a Dixie gun. I do not know the caliber and there is nothing written on the barrel. It is a beautiful gun and would look great over a fireplace or work great hunting/shooting. I am asking 750 with shipping included.

is the barrel 7/8'' wide?? if so looks like made by miroku in Japan. distributed by dixie. I owned one of these

100% a Dixie. Great rifle that should shoot lights out.
Measure the bore best you can. Likely .50 or .54 caliber and probably 15/16 across the flat but there were some 7/8” barrels.

Miroku made for Dixie Gun Works, 32 or 50 cal.

Only .50 and .32 with the Dixie Tennessee Mountain Rifle.

Dixie Gun Works Tennessee Mountain Rifle (kit version). It has the cherry stock and likely .50 15/16 barrel. A .32 Squirrel Rifle model will have a 13/16 barrel, this appears larger than that.

The hole in the butt is called a 'Grease Hole". You put rendered animal fat in it. Usually bear or deer renderings. Then you rub your patch on the grease to lube it before loading your rifle. Mountain skills, city people just don't get it, even back then. Semper Fi.

Yes, they were available as a kit. All of the “kit” rifles I’ve seen do not have production numbers.

In looking at it the flats look smaller than 15/16 but it could be the camera angle. If that’s the case it will be a .32.

Yes, they were available as a kit. All of the “kit” rifles I’ve seen do not have production numbers.

I have two that are one serial apart. I am sure they were kits as I had to have some things fixed that would not have made it out the door in a production gun. I asked Dixie and, in their rudeness, they blew me off saying the records were not digitized.

I remember hearing an alternative to the "grease hole" being used as a mortar where a little powder could be put in and a ball used to grind into fine priming powder. I have no idea if its true but struck me as far more logical. Priming powder without a seperate horn and an open container of grease seems messy without some type of cover.

And you guys are correct. It wasn’t offered in .54. My dad has one in .54 but we rebarreled it and I had forgotten about the rebarreling…
