does anyone know any thing about this pistol, what it's worth, maker? all it has stamped on the barrel is "Spain" and some letters that look like "JUK". i think it's a .45 cal.

That pistol is just like the old CVA pistols and the ones marketed by Traditions. Both called them Kentucky pistols.
Deer Creek lists their Tradition brand Kentucky pistol at $176.00 for percussion and $206.00 for flint if I read the catalog correctly.
I bought mine about thirty-five years ago in kit form for a whole maybe $30.00. The finished pistol was maybe $15.00 more.
They do have that wonderful mystery hardwood stock (beechwood I think). :hmm:

The Juk is most likely Jukar. CVA sold some of their models. The Jukar guns aren't very pricey and quality could has been known to be hit or miss on some of them. Their derringer and Kentucky pistols are rather common and some are pretty fair shooters. I'd think the value would be in the $80-150 range. I see them at gun shows all the time and they're generally run $120 or so.

thanx fellows! i was about to write a check for $225 for the pistol. maybe i'll renegoiate for a better price.

The pistol was made by Ardessa, a Spanish company which has made muzzleloading rifles/pistols for years.

Over time these have been variously marked usually with the name of the company that imports them.

Traditions currently imports the Ardessa sidelock guns and CVA is still importing in-lines from them.

In general they can be described as low cost arms which are not of the quality found in the arms made in Italy.
They are serviceable arms which will provide years of enjoyment if they are taken care of.

Most of the pistols like this that have been imported are Percussion locked guns that are worth $100-$150. The fact that this is a Flintlock would add perhaps $20-$25 to its value.

As with all muzzleloaders, the condition of the barrel and lock are the prime items which determines its value.

Knock about $125 off that and go from there.

Back in the day, there was a joke about JUKAR--that it was the Spanish word for Junker. Not too far from the truth in many cases. These guns aren't worth a three figure price tag in my opinion. I might go $50 for a minter if I was dead drunk and needed a paper weight real bad. For the money you're talking about, you are better off looking for a used Italian gun or buying a decent parts set and building your own. Even if you screw it up you'll still have a better gun than one of these things. Dixie Gun Works will sell you a Pedersoli Kentucky pistol kit that is easy to put together, more authentic and not much more than the asking price for this gun.:v

Certainly not worth $225, but not junk either (depending on condition, of course). Maybe $75 in good condition, $100 max in excellent condition.

I own several of the Ardesa product in CVA livery from about 30 years ago, still in very good condition, still good shooters. That's not junk. I don't claim they're the top of the maker's art, but junk is perhaps a little too strong. There's certainly worse stuff out there.

Yep, that is a JUKAR which was one of the CVA imports. I had that same one back in the day. That one pictured has some nice grain but was not put together too well as evidenced by the side plate placement and off center triggerguard. In perfect condition those pistols are worth maybe $150. You can buy the new kits from Traditions in about the same price range. I got one off ebay that hadn't been put together for $70 (in percussion).
