Any of you looked at IMA for flints? They sell them by the pound. For $110 you can get 5 pounds of flints.

I purchased 5 lb of Flint from IMI it was a year ago, ish.
They were supposed to be hand select"
Biggest bag of junk I ever bought in my life!
I think I got about a pound and a half of flints that are unusable.
I picked out maybe 50 flints that were okay.
The rest of them I had to put on a diamond wheel and trim them up. I mean they were bad.
A week after they showed up I received an email from IMI asking for a review. Need I say that my review was not a glowing report.

I'll have to buy a bench grinder first..At 68, that ain't happening...
The dust mention is very important. The fine, invisible particles floating in the air and inhaled, are like tiny razors once in the lungs. Mask up! I've seen photos of people knapping without masks and it makes me cringe.

Agree. While I seldom use it, I have one of the inexpensive HF wet tile saws with a diamond blade. Originally bought it to cut agates for polishing, but it does a great job reshaping flints and no dust. Still have to wear eye protection even though it throws everything away from you. I think they’re still cheaper than a bench grinder and more effective. Safer too.

I got some. About 6-8 useable as they are, thers noeed to be "reduced" a bit. SO COOL to hold these knowing a guy hundreds of years ago shaped them. LOV the history part of this. The wife had THE most profound look of confusion on here face when she learned I had bought an entire box of rocks LOLOLOL

You can tell a lot about what seems to be "the average guy" by how many Rocks he hoards over a lifetime.....

My experience with IMA was excellent for 5 lbs of flints. Tons of usable and the larger dull ones just knap them down to smaller usable.
