After a cursory glance at a "Weapons of the Civil War" book , I can almost recognize those cannons.

Interesting...born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas where there is a Zachary Taylor park with marker where he made final camp before his troops took off for Mexico....

Some of those forts were engineered by Robert E. Lee; I don't know which ones off hand, but you could look it up. He was primarily an engineer before the War.

Seems odd that the fort got shorter as time went by. Government usually makes stuff bigger . And it wasn’t because it sunk into the ground like along the Mississippi delta.
