Sorry to hear of the passing of TwoShadows. We'll say a prayer for our brother buckskinner, and meet at Randavouze Creek near Henrys Fork when the long winter is over. We'll see you there, friend...

As the song goes "Its not what you take when you leave this
world, it's what you leave behind that counts". You have
left behind plenty TwoShadows. Thanks :hatsoff:

Another of the brethern of the long gun is laid low. He, now, threads the path into the Great Mystery. A trail not to be feared, but embraced, as sooner or later we all must walk it. For it is just one more trail on the path of life, for death, too, is part of life. I did not know Two Shadows, but he was a brother of the long gun, and knowing that, I know that he was good people. Life is the spark of energy within us all, and so long as you hold the memory of Two Shadows within you, then he is not truly gone. So, shed your tears openly, or in private, in honor of his passage. But remember, also, to tell of his deeds and how he touched your life at each any every campfire you sit down to. That way his memory will not fade and his deeds will set an example for those as yet to be initiated in to the Brotherhood of the Long Gun.

Farewell Two Shadows, may game be plenty and your aim true.

Two Shadows...

I never knew him, but I'm sure I'll meet him someday...

In his honor - and out of respect for everyone here - I'm going to post a little something I wrote a few years ago... Look for it under "The Rondyvoo". I actually meant to post it last week for Memorial Day, but just flat ran out of time.

...Oh and by the way - To paraphrase the Good Book; Two Shadows ain't dead, he is simply gone away for a while...

...The Kansan...

Have you any idea what Russ' nickname "Two Shadows" meant?

I am just guessing here (for all my guesses are worth), I believe it means he cast two shadows, one in the modern world and one in the world of buckskinning...

That's intriguing. Musketman :hmm: You know, since he turned me on to Roger Sells, longriflemaker, and specifically mentioned his little Tenn. .36 (that I'm purchasing in addition to the one being built), I was trying to think of a way to maybe name the .36 after him. "Two Shadows" or "Shadow" make a name for a little flinter? :hmm:

TwoShadows would be the perfect name for it. I'm sure he would be honored. And when it's time to hand the rifle down to the young ones of the next generation to follow you, tell them where the name came from and his spirit will be there every time they take it hunting or trekking.

condolences and respect thoughts of a quick journey from the Starks family

May I suggest for this rifle

I'm deeply saddened to hear about TwoShadows passing away. I was praying for him .

He will be greatly missed.

Two Shadows was the only forum member that I've met in person. I think it was last year at Mansker's Station. He was working a food stand that his club did once a year, some kind of fried potato item. He seemed to be a very friendly and jolly fellow and I'm sorry to learn of his death.

I don't know where to start on Two Shadows. Russ was a friend of mine . I met him back in the early 70's when I joined up with the American Mtn. Men. He was easy to spot, always sitting in his chair cooking something. He loved to cook.....and eat! By the way, that's where his name came from-he was so big one shadow wasn't enough; he needed two!

about a month ago, he sent me a couple of powder measures he had made and a needle carrier for my wife. These will be treasures That will be a constant reminder of his wit and ready-to-help-anyone attitude. we hadn't seen each other in awhile but stayed in contact through all these years. He and his wife had hoped to stay over with me if he felt like going to the Fla. rendezvous, but he just wasn't up to the trip when the time came. Told me that if I visited him, he'd brew up some of his famous campfire coffee and make some dutch oven cornbread. How I wish I'd taken him up on his offer! I will miss him.
'till we meet again, my friend, this cup of coffee is my toast to your life. Peace.

I didn't know Twoshadows but my prayers are with him and his kin.

May God and Saint Michael watch over you on your journey through the lands between the worlds, and may all the Archangels protect all you hold dear. Godspeed.

Durch schatten und licht, Himmel wartet auf dir.

Two Shadows may be gone in body but he will always be with his fellow buckskinners in spirit. We all say a prayer for him and his family tonight. God Bless

"Der crunchenboomer ist gershutzen iffn yer gershlow mit der reflexes und don't gerjerken der barrel vin der crunchenboomer ist about to go boomen.....das is ver der gerpracticin comes in handy!"

An example of Two Shadows humor. I never met him, but we emailed. Figured things were going poorly when he didn't answer my last email to him. Purchased a hawk from him that I treasure.
