There are a lot of unethical people out there trying to scam folks one way or another. I was looking for a Lyman Great Plains flintlock and happened on a place called The Gun Shop out of Nebraska. I was almost ready to place an online order because they had plenty of them in stock and were cheaper than everyone else and decided to wait until the next day until I could talk to someone on the phone. Turns out it was a scam site and the physical store didn't exist and the Better Business Bureau had investigated complaints about it.

Weird story all around and reinforces the “dumb crooks” theory. Mr L didn’t have enough sense to put together what the additional numbers were. SSNs stand out due to their sequence.
