you are correct it was still sop in ww1 . urine was collected in the trenches in troughs ,its main use was in the condensors on vickers guns, it was also used to cool lee endfield barrels when they became to hot from extended firing( british and commwealth regs were trained to fire 10 shots in10sec from their lee endfields).
