I went to the Hamburg gun show last weekend spcifically to pick up a new varmint gun (Ruger American Predator in .223). No luck on the .223 but, at the very last table in the building was a muzzleloader. The tag read "T/C Hawken 45 caliber $250. I said to myself "I've been wanting a 45!", but something just didn't look right.......didn't quite look like a Hawken. As soon as I picked it up I knew--"This is no Hawken, it's 2 pounds too light, this is a SENECA!!!" I dickered a little and got him down to $200, I was ecstatic! I couldn't find the .223 I wanted so I picked up a new 10-22 and a NIB Remington 582 bolt-action .22, $200 each. Must have been the day for $200 guns!
The Seneca has a few handling marks and a couple of dings on the barrel but a tight patch slides smoothly down the bore with no trace of rust. I'm not concerned with the cosmetics, I'm thinking I'll pull the barrel and tang and brown them this summer, the small dings on the barrel will come out while draw-filing. Now, if spring would just get here so I can get to the range and shoot it!
