Joizy Guy,

That's too bad. If it was in Paramus or even Ramsey I could see myself driving there. I can get to the old Lyman range in Wallingford, CT in the same time and they even sell GOEX!! If you go on weekdays you almost have the place to yourself. The only bad experience was when some clown started blasting away with one of those super .30 caliber magnums and hurting my head from over 50 yards to my left and with earmuffs.

...guess I'll find out soon enough

Went through a range session today using a french amber flint...never touch it other than occasional cleaning...it performed as well as black english flints...just have to wait to see what kind of average life they'll give

I ordered 2 dz. of the french flints from horstgun.
what a nice guy. got the order pronto. they were
neatly packed french blonde and amber flints. now
if the weather breaks hear i will try them out.
i wish everyone did biz. the way horstgun does.

I guess the real question here is: Does the amber flints give off different color sparks than the black flints?

I know, it is the same frizzen being scraped by the flints, the spark comes from the metal, not the rock...

I e-mail ordered a dozen flints on Monday morning and sent John a check Monday afternoon.
Today is Thursday and my flints are in hand. They look as good as any I have seen, English or otherwise. The proof will be in the shooting.
In my opinion, John is a gentleman and a good businessman. I will be dealing with him again.
..

I bought two French flints from October country when I ordered fifty English ones. I tried one yesterday. I got maybe ten shots out of it.Put a black English back in and started shooting.

05/07/05 UPDATE

Just back from the range...continued with the same 3/4" French flint I shot 40 times last Saturday, and had to replace it at the 50 shot mark.

I came to realize that I ran out of adjustment room...these French flints are smaller (shorter) than the Black English that I normally use and I have to start them already out away from the jaw screw to begin with.

Then due to normal use/wear, I just couldn't slide it any further forward and still keep a good grip with the jaws...maybe they'd be better as pistol flints if I understand correctly that pistol locks are usually a little smaller.

The French flints sparked fine but no better than my 3/4" Black English, and at least this set of flints don't last any longer due to their smallish size adjustment limitation.

So for me personally, costing roughly twice as much as my BEF's, I don't see an incentive to buy more of them...good to have had the experience though.

I ordered a dz from him on Fri. can't wait to try em out in my new Fusil :)

roundball: You say they are shorter than the Englishflint. Then they may be worth trying in my older TVM as it seems to have to have the 3/4 short English. It would be nice to find something that I didn't have to modify to fit the lock before I can start shooting. I have been having trouble at times finding the English short 3/4's. Anybody else have to use the short flints? I'll learn to shoot this thing yet.
