I had a great time doing my first woodswalk. My performance was less than stellar, but the old smoothbore worked fine.

It was real fine to meet and shoot with some of the forum. I hope we can do it again in Sept.

It was great to put a face with some names on here. I didn't shoot but stopped by to chat with the crew for a few minutes.

Medic 302 Getting it started

It was great to meet all of you Guys and I hope to be back in the Fall and ready to shoot.

Thank you for posting this!
This brings back last years memories - tecum-tha still got the same hat
I am not pickin' on him - I got the same in green...

Good to hear you had fun - who took the trophy for the spring?

Silex

I'm not sure who took it Silex ,I left before it was over. Went on a tour of the Primitive camp area in search of a few goodies. :haha:

Masterblaster took the trophy with 15 hits out of 17 targets.
Yes,SILEX, my hat is the same. It is my grandfathers hiking hat. At those events I wear it more traditional. When I am wearing it normaly, I fold the top in to look more like a crusher hat, but that is not authentic. I like the stone grey color though. And there is the "Zermatt" decal on it as well.
Did really well this year with 10 hits out of 17 and I split the playing card for the first time, too. Great fun to do so. My friends 8 year old grandson was shooting with us,too and he scored I think about 4 hits. That was his first real NMLRA match ever. He hit all sub-junior gongs, but some targets are just difficult to shoot unrested.
We were also shooting running boar and I start to figure it out. Instead of the 100% zero from the first year, I shot a 10 and had several other scoring hits. It is still difficult to use a rifle more like a wingshooting gun.

Thanks Tecum-tha for the update. Congrats to Masterblaster on a excellent round.

Good shootin' Masterblaster! :hatsoff:
By the way, he was also on the winning team for the Fort Greenville match. Double cograts are in order.

Unfortunately I did not get to participate in the forum woodswalk this time due to a conflicting time schedule with the Widowmakers musket woodswalk. I did get up there to meet everyone before they started shooting tho. It was nice to meet some more members face to face.

Congratulations Masterblaster!

tecum-tha, thank you for the story behind the hat - nice touch!

Y'all have a good rest of the week.

Jethro won the Widowmaker Military Musket Woodswalk Match. He will have to tell you what his score was.

Master Blaster and I were two of the 3 man winning team for the Defense of Fort Greenville Match. Our combined score along with Don Hulvey was 5 hits, the next highest score was 4. The targets were 12" gongs at about 90 yards away up hill. They were really tough to hit this year. Master Blaster said "this was more fun than Disney World".

I was in the group with Master Blaster and was shooting my .54 smoothbore. Quite a humbling experience. I would like to know something about the percussion rifles that were being shot. Seeing them peaked my interest.

In particular, what riflle was Master Blaster and the guy in the middle of the photo above shooting (Sorry, I forgot names)

I scored a 10 with my Bess on the Widowmaker Musket Woodswalk. Only won by one point.

Remember what I said about out-shooting me?
Well, we both hit ten. I did it with a rifle, you did it with a smoothbore. I did have a few beers and sampled the contents of a few bottles at Nappy's camp the night before but not enough to even begin to use that as an excuse. Far as I'm concerned, y'all came out on top.
See 'ya in September.

As operator of Running Boar, I work close to Woods Walk, and am a very interested bystander. Some observations:
Masterblaster shot Running Boar several times. He's enjoyable to be with. And humble. He told me he won the TMF woods walk, but not for some time after we met, and I had to pry a score out of him. He's no slouch on Running Boar either, but a 16 year old boy smoked EVERYBODY this year with a 127 (closest competitors tied at 116 out of 200).

Tecum-tha is also a pleasure to know. He came to R.B. with the 8 year old previously mentioned and his grandfather, who has cataracts in his shooting eye. The boy beat grandpa by 1 point! Largely because of Tecum-tha encouraging them to attend, and coaching the lad.

Look at the first picture at Tecum-tha and his rifle. It's a short barreled 65 caliber Jaeger, and when it speaks, it speaks with authority! And when I told him one of his shots was a 10, his beloved hat just about jumped off his head with surprise.

The range director for Woods Walk may have misunderstood when I said there was a TMF contingent there on Saturday the 8th, but he told me there were 40 TMF participants! He said most of them did not try to participate in the TMF competition, but they were there later in the day.
And the trophy plate Silex contributed is a fantastic trophy. I hope a picture of it is posted soon.

Thanks to all the TMF members who came to Running Boar to shoot, and to share their stories. It contributed to a very good week.

Congratulations to everybody!

:hatsoff:

It really sounds like you had a wonderful Spring Shoot.

I had every intention of making it to Friendship on Friday afternoon.

But then I remembered that I had promised the George Rodgers Clark Memorial that I would do a presentation for them with my Bark canoe on Sat. So then I was going to get there Sat late afternoon, then I decided to run home and not bring the canoe with me, so Sun morn about 930 I finally rolled into camp, ran into Glen McClain, Higgins and Bratten, and a drunk front moved in.......

Bratten was on the woods walk with Dave and Vicky Rollins the same time as Tecum-tha, Medic302 and me. You were so close.

Just got home from Friendship! Never knew so many forum members were at the shoot, it was great to meet everyone. My 15 hits at woodswalk put me into 1st place for 2 days, went back wed. and shot 16 for a gold medal. Barry...my rifle is a 50cal t/c that I altered with 36in. G.M. barrel, Davis lock and L&R lock. It also took Lg. silhouette gold, running Boar daily golds and turkey gobbler silver at primitive. Manny...It was very nice of you to let me bring home the Ft. Greenville Award..it was my first trip to primitive! Thank You p.s. The groups were VERY friendly :hatsoff:
