That’s where the longest continuous one (as in regularly scheduled shoots each year) is.
But there are lots of others.
Some charter clubs put on special shoots that have been yearly events for decades and draw people from all over. The club nearest me has an annual over-the-log “Hog shoot” that draws participants from unbelievable distances just to shoot ten shots in a one day shoot. In addition, if you are into the primitive game, there are several regional rendezvous, Western, Eastern, Midwest, Old Northwest, and Southeastern.
I live close enough to Friendship to commute, and even years ago when I shot trap matches every day I still went home every night. If you stay the week and shoot every day it can get a little expensive. Particularly if you spend too much time around Commercial Row. Nonetheless, every traditional black powder shooter should make the trip at least once.

Friendship is in Indiana, about an hour NW of Cincinnati. It is a small town with one bar, one bank, one post office, one general store and about 20 houses. The nearest big town is Versailles, IN (pronounced Ver-Sails) Come for the shooting and camping. There are also two of the biggest flea markets on either side of the NMLRA ground if you like that sort of thing. Some of the shooters on this forum get together and meet at various locations and times on the grounds to jaw and shoot together.

Want to see it,,go to "Google Earth" you can go for a tour of the 'Town" and get a birds eye view of the area.

Couple years ago a friend and I stopped there on the way home from KY during the May doings. Pretty nice place and only wonder how much there would be to see during one of the big shoots.

Go the first weekend if you want to see all the trade blankets and vendors. A bunch of these people
leave mid week to travel to other events. Last year the this forum's members got together and shot the Woodswalk on Sunday morning. It was a lot of fun!

I second that!
Lots of nice people to meet and shoot together in friendly competition. The MLF get together and Woodswalk is a must! Look for the guy with the snake flag

Now I only need the funds to come over again.

i sure hope i can make it sometime, dunno if it'll happen... maybe. Friendship is a long ways: 999 miles, 15hrs 46 mins.

Pheonix (western national) is further: 1,233 miles, 18hrs 48 mins.

Really need to have something closer!!

Scott

it's worth the trip new to smoke. besides, you gotta come and shoot the woodswalk with us in the spring.

My friends and I have been going to either the spring, or fall shoot for the last few years. Its something we all look forward to every year. I think that you would really enjoy it.

I expect to have enough free time next year to start going to the local shoot and practicing on a regular basis. I'm really looking forward to shooting there.

When we lived in Indiana, I spent many a wonderful day shooting, shopping and sightseeing at Friendship. To say that it is a wonderful experience is selling it short. Everyone who shoots blackpowder should go to Friendship for either the Fall or Spring shoots. Better yet, go to both. If you have a camper, plan on taking it and be sure to make your camping reservations way ahead because they fill up far in advance. Motels anywhere near (within a 30 minute drive) Friendship are in short suppy. Whatever you have to do to get there, it is worth it. Enter every match you can and be sure to take plenty of shopping cash.

Oh, BTW, if you do not belong to NMLRA, now is the time to join. The journal, Muzzle Blasts, alone is worth the price of membership.

perhaps ill try to make it down, its a looong trip for me and will require a plane ticket. but it sounds like it might be worth it. at th very least spending some time with more forum members should be fun.

i'll to you one better matt85, if you come down to friendship this spring you can shoot my shotguns and long range rifles too. ring the mini creedmore target at 500yrds and few times and break some clays on the skeet, woodswalk and sporting clays..

Newtewsmoke, there are muzzleloading clubs closer to you. While I agree with most of the guys on here that Friendship is a(at least once) must see, there are doins closer to you. Go on the NMLRA website and look up charter clubs or field reps for your state. That would at least be a step in the right direction. Where you go from there is up to you.

Tell ya what.
Medic302 has guaranteed you will have something to shoot. Let me know what time the flight arrives at Cincinnati and I’ll be there to pick you up. If you are willing to shoot a cap gun you have use of my Tingle while you are there.
The late Max Vickery once stated something to the effect that he could go to a shoot with nothing but the clothes on his back and still be able to have a place to sleep, eat, and shoot all week. A lot of things have changed in the muzzleloading game since he made that statement. I like to think that the spirit of what he said is not one of them.

We were out in Friendship a few hours in the Spring of 68 when I was living in Indiana, the people seem kind of friendly.

But I would not show up today with nothing but the cloths on your back, as you will not gat passed the gate gestapoat the NMLRA.

Brink an NMLRA Membership Card, or the Required Fee to join the NMLRA, bring lost and lots of money, as you will need it for registration fee, match fee, camping fees, etc., etc., etc.

The good old day of the Friendship Shoot are history, like most good old when you could buy a Coca Cola for a Nickel, a New Car for a Grand and a Half, and a Gallon of Gas for your New Car for $0.19.9/Gallon.

Wake up to 2012. :applause:

Well pennypincher I was wondering when you would show up. You do seem to have a hate on for the NMLRA.
