how much pressure should the frizzen spring have ? and if the pressure is to much ,will this cause the flint to shatter?-

If the spring is too strong it will do just that, or not allow the frizzen to open at all. I feel its really a balance between the springs that makes a lock work well.

 thanks guys that solves my problem ,that is what i thought but i just wanted to be sure and this is the best place i know of for good advice thanks-

Hey Tom, what type of rifle do you have? I have the same problem with my Kentucky rifle made by Perdsoli. It so damm stiff I have cut my self on the flint tyring to flip the frizzen open. Hope we get some of these fine people to us out, because the next time it cuts me I'll turn it into golf club!!! It will look good at the bottom of the pound with the rest of my club's :cursing:

my spring is on an import blunderbuss, everything else is fine ,just the frizzen spring but i have the answer i was look for now thanks to paul and the other guys

If you have a belt sander, that's a good way to ease it up. Just be careful not to get it too hot. Keep a cup of water handy, and hold the spring with your fingers. Take down the thickness of the top part of the leaf. You can make it narrower if it looks like it needs it, but the thickness reduction will soften it better.

If no belt sander, you can use a sharp file.
