Finally got out and broke in my .32 Crockett Squirrel Rifle this morning. It was a nice and cool, sunny morning. Lots of squirrel activity. First time squirrel hunting with a smoke pole and hunting squirrels this late in the year. It’s a real challenge and a real sport. I love it. Brought home 5 bushy tails.

Congrats on a fine mess of squirrels. I don’t get the chance to as much as I used to, but I have had a lot of fun tromping the woods chasing them. Thanks for stirring up those memories.

Thank you, sir. Indeed, easing around the big woods hunting gray squirrels with a ML is about as much fun as one can have with their clothes on. Thought I best get out and get it done while I can, facing another surgery soon. This time on my knee. So I won't be doing much walking up the hills and mountains for a while. But that doesn't mean I cannot get out and shoot my ML's a some. Just need to find a place to shoot where I can take my four wheeler to run back and forth to the target. :)

That's just awesome. Congrats!
I thank you, bro. As I have said, been hunting all my life and this was one of those special hunts that I will never forget. My "want bumps" has been itching for many a year wanting to hunt the hardwoods for gray squirrels with a small caliber ML. I hope the big guy up stairs blesses me with more hunts like that one yesterday.

Oh yeah, almost forgot. Saw 8 deer and a big ole groundhog too.

Nice rifle and very good shooting! I am curious, what is the daily limit on squirrels in Kentucky? In South Dakota it is 10 per day but I personally don't know anyone who hunts them. There just doesn't seem to be any interest in them just like there is very little to no interest in hunting cottontail rabbits around here.

Thank you LSB.

Squirrel daily bag limit in KY is 6 per day. Haven't hunted them in years but I swore if I ever got a .32 squirrel rifle I would get back at it. I used to hunt them heavy in my younger days in TN, but not with a smoke pole. Truth be known, hunting squirrels in the TN hills is how I learned a fair amount about deer hunting. While sneaking up on squirrels I also snuck up on deer and observed what they ate and how they acted, their patterns and how they use different trails in the mountains. Many times they never knew I was there. Kind of fun and rewarding.

I would love to have a lot of rabbits to hunt. They are perhaps my favorite small game critter. Consider yourself lucky to have that option.

Nice looking mess of bushy tails. I can’t wait to get mine out and get to hunting. Hunting like that is tops on my bucket list! Congratulations again on a successful hunt.

Thank you, Anthony. The Crockett .32 Squirrel Rifle is fun to shoot. Super easy to pack through the woods as well. They don't make much noise when fired either. That helps because it doesn't scare everything in the next zip code away. Honestly, I still do not know the full accuracy potential. I had to file down the rear sight on mine. Got it to hit well at 25 yards and went hunting. Still some experimenting to do, in terms of patch lubes. So far I have found mine likes 20 grains of 3F BP, .310 ball and .015 patches. Haven't shot it much past 25 yards, well, except yesterday I'm sure a couple of the squirrels I got was 30 to 35 yards. That's about as far as my old eyes can see well with iron sights.

I hope you enjoy your Crockett Rifle. Let us know what you think of yours once you put it through its paces.

Mine too! I ended up gluing a piece of fiber optic to the top of my front sight and it was a game changer.
That can surely help in some cases. I put a FO on the front of my New Englander and a TC peep on the rear. That gave me a clear sight picture. Its kind of strange how I can get a pretty good sight picture with a couple of my smoke poles but not the other one. All I know is I have an appointment with the eye doc in a week or two. My current prescription is from two years ago glasses. So hopefully a new set of windows will clear things up a tad.
