Doesn't matter what the seller told you. What matters is what you have done...your gun, contact TVM, it doesn't take much of your time and you just maybe surprised with the out come. Then again maybe not but you won't know unless you make the effort...

With all due respect, sir, what is wrong with this advice? :hmm: Do it!

Besides that sight issue is minor, very minor. It is an easy fix.

I only have one TVM so far, but it has been great from the start. The sight issue is very minor, and very easily fixed as has been described. If that is the only "problem", then you should be able to fix it for probably about $10-15 and a little of your time. I say fix the sight yourself, it will give you an extra skill and also more confidence to tackle bigger problems you will inevitably run into in the future with other guns. If you're not willing to give yourself a chance, I would also recommend contacting TVM. As much as they stand behind their products, and all the advice they gave me when I was trying to decide what it was I wanted, I would bet that if they did refuse to work with the previous owner, they had a VERY good reason, and you may want them or someone else very knowledgeable in these guns take a very good and detailed look at it.

If you get a different rear sight and decide to re cut the dovetail be sure to get/make a three corner file with a safe side so you don't make the dovetail any deeper.

Good luck I wish I had the money to purchase a TVM Rifle even if it was used.

It looks like there is a little angle to the sides of your dove tail. You can pound that sight back in with a piece of brass shim stock and it will lock it in tight. No shim stock? no problem, make some from an expired cartridge. Take one problem at a time and deal with it! Throwing up your hands and howling at the moon never solved anything. Problem solving is what Americans do!

PS, You know how to post a picture. Why not post one of the whole gun? I'd like to see it and I'm sure others would as well.

Lakota, it seems that you bought a used gun that was, originally, made by TVM. It passed through - who knows how many hands before you acquired it. Instead of posting your vitriol on this forum why didn't you list your concerns and contact TVM? If they didn't respond in a satisfactory manner I could understand going public. However,I really don't understand why this thread hasn't been closed.

I'm new to this forum, though I've been around muzzleloading since the world was young and so was I. I have a TVM Squirrel Rifle that's a truly fine piece of hardware. She's a .40 caliber and she's as accurate as you could hope for. I'm right sorry that somebody has had trouble with his TVM rifle, but it sounds to me he got a lemon.
There floats my stick.

Son, take it a bit easy. Years ago I bought a .36 that was the best rifle I ever saw . But it had a bent barrel. 1 phone call ,and sent it back ,TVM made good on everything. It is one of the most accurate rifels I have ever owned.Give them a chance. Right now I am just hoping to be able to buy another from them in the next couple of months. You bought a used rifel ,you can never tell how it was treated before you owned it.

That's about it. It's like someone buying a USED car and asking, "Are all (fill in blank) overpriced trash?"

Wow my TVM Tennessee rifle's rear sight looks nothing like that, in fact mine is fit just as tight as you please. Looks like someone did a little tinkering on that one.

Here is the rear sight and dovetail. I dont know if I can focus down fine enough to show the lack of a ledge inside the slot to hold the sight down:

The focus is fine enough that I can see the dovetail and how the tips are kinda bent upwards. I can also see a little ding in the corner of the barrel right below the dovetail and another ding in the wood right below that.
Looks to me like the rifle got banged against something. That might have loosened the sight.
A few careful taps with a flat punch and a small hammer would straighten out the dovetail and the sight would fit tight like it's supposed to.

It's a good bet, the sight has been in and out a few times for some reason. Maybe replaced. The dovetail is good.

the rifle is used--how many owners?--how many hands buggering at it?--I don't feel TVM is responsible for any repairs or adjustments unless the want to from the kindness of their heart--when you buy a used vehicle it is pot luck--I feel the same here "POT LUCK" on a second hand rifle :idunno:

I would respectfully ask that the moderators modify the title of or delete this thread. I just attempted to do something with the title and was unable to do anything. I over reacted in the heat of the moment. I have had many headaches with this rifle and my frustration boiled over in the heat of the moment. I appologize to Matt and TVM for the title. He has no control over what abuse or bubba modifications any previous owners may have subject the rifle to. Frustration can override the the judgement of the most rational person sometimes. Again my sincere appolgy to TVM.

I think that you and Zonie have put this on a far better track with the title change. The facts are the facts and should be fairly presented all the way through.

I like the flavor a lot better. I think you are on your way to working some kinks out of your gun with the help of some of the members here. With some of the things you may learn, and a lil hands on, it will truly be "your" rifle. Enjoy the ride.

MUCH BETTER! :applause: Now, on with getting the rifle into working order. What other "gremmlins" have you had besides the rear site? As others have said, take it one issue at a time.
