Don't Know if this should be in the builders bench, flintlock, or cannon catagory but it will be fun.

Yep its a hand mortar

Nope, you probably won't believe this, but its from The Rifle Shoppe along with lock castings and other hardware.

Tennis anyone??

Guess again. Unless I miss my guess, that's either a cigarette lighter, or a smoking pipe. :hmm:

I am dying to ask how long of a turn around time (order to reciept)did it take? :hmm:The barrel I assume is Brass-is it cast and/or turned?

Actually it didn't take long at all. This is not something I purchased, but for a person that I do a lot of different work for (wall guns, blunderbuss, etc.). I'll find out and let you know.

That even puts the 4 bore to shame.
just what is supposed to be shot in that. Surely not a sollid bullet. Maybe the dogfood can full of concret?

The bore is right around 2 1/2", so a tennis ball will just fit inside. This thing was apparentlly meant for grenades. You would first light the grenade and the gun was fired to launch it. :shocked2:

Any way I figure that the GA DNR fellers will get a kick out of it come next muzzleloading season (the regs state that it needs to be bigger than a 44 cal. for deer  ).

I have the lock assembled, now I just need to find a chunk of wood to put it in. It needs to be atleast 2 1/2"- 2 3/4" wide. I refuse to cut down a full piece blank. :youcrazy:

They might not have had to light the grenade before they fired the launcher.

I don't know exactly when they were used, but some of the early grenades used a time fuse which rested on the main powder charge.
When the gun was fired, that ignited the time fuse automatically.
I know in the Civil War Morters, the time fuse adjusted for burn duration and was inserted in the forward area of the shell away from the powder.
The huge muzzleflash engulfed the shell when the Morter was fired and that lit the fuse.

OK, back to the building. :)

Dang man! Let me know when you touch that sucker off, so that I will be prepared! I'll probably hear it go off all the way in to Nebraska!

In the Director's Cut of Last of the Mohicans, Major Hayward has a battle in front of the fort with French troops and the Grenadier standing next to him has one of those.

It wouldn't hold enough coffee for me... :shake:

Yeah but I could probably figure out how to serve it to you from here! :shocked2:

Its going to have to wait for a bit, still do not have a piece of wood. :(

I ordered a kit from TRS too.... took about a year to recieve it but I am hoping it will be complete by the summer.
