This example has some of the best lines I have seen on a FdC. Beautiful! Doesn’t look like a cheek slapper either.
I think they were armory bright. In any event, never browned, I agree.I thought they were French gray on the metal, but not browned … I’ll go check Bouchard’s book.
Check The Fusil de Tulle in New France 1691-1741 by Russel Bouchard. That the hunting gun was produced in the same shops as the grenadier musket, and other muskets for the French Marine should imply quite a bit. In fact, close examination of photographs and line drawings that Bouchard presents display a certain resemblance in architecture between all muskets produced in Tulle, the buccaneer musket excepted. What I'm saying is I conclude that the hunting gun was finished the same as the grenadier musket, or the common musket. I invite information to the contrary. Just please cite sources.LOL !! See !!
