I believe they were French gray on the metal, but not browned … I’ll go check Bouchard’s book. The book is silent on any finish, at least in regards to Tulle armory built fire locks..... Fusil de Chasse done , in the white ...as it were . Always wondered if they were originally browned or " in the white " when they were sold or traded back in the day . Ive heard arguments for both sides before but neither had proof , just theories .

Nope I don’t think so. And it looks nicer thank rust blue but that’s just my 2 cents worth you may like rust .Wont french gray eventually go brown?

This example has some of the best lines I have seen on a FdC. Beautiful! Doesn’t look like a cheek slapper either..... Fusil de Chasse done , in the white ...as it were .
