Measuring am old shotgun. I come up with a bore diameter of .695"

Using a 12ga jag, it keeps cutting the patch due to there not being enough space for the material.

Would this be something like a 14ga?

Either a 14 gauge or a full choked 12 gauge. My West (St. Louis) County Special 12 gauge smooth bore (made up of a very eclectic assortment of parts) measures 0.700" at the muzzle and 0.729" past the choke restriction.

If no choke, a 14 gauge as mentioned above. Here is a reference chart of shotgun gauges to diameter or caliber. Don’t remember where I got it from, but it might help.
