an old man who lives down the road has been like a father to me since i moved out here in the sticks, a life long gun collector he still has every gun he has ever owned , except one now! his first gun was a pistol he whittled out of wood when he was a kid that he inserted a 1/4 inch steel tube in and then drilled a hole in the side to ignite the powder with a cigar! he was 8 years old then , he is now 78 and his health is failing, his kidneys have failed and he now needs dialisys 3 days a week. this old man has taught me much! i now go to his house at 6 30 every morn, 7 days a week and fix him breakfast, then 3 days a week , i take him for treatment ,then at supper i take him a plate and we have a cup of coffee and smoke our pipes, im sure gonna miss his dry sense of humor and knowledge when he goes! last night he went to the bedroom and brought a sock out and handed it to me. it had a 36 cal brass framed bp revolver in it,talk about old school! a pistol in a sock? any ways he said when im gone my kids are gonna fight over every thing and nary one of them would ever appreciate or ever use this , and i want you to have it son, man tears were wellin up , but i knew better! any way this is now my favorite pistol! its not the one i would of chose for my self, but its the one he wanted me to have,it means the world to me now!

Treat it with ever loving care-treasure it always. I was gifted a "Zouve" rifle by an uncle. It now sits in a display rack on the wall of my living room. I took the time to have a jeweler engrave a brass plate for it. It now call it BOB for thats my uncles name. I hope to one day do the same for my son when my time gets close(in 30-40 years).

What an awesome gift! You are a good friend to him. Great story! Some of my favorite people have become quite old...

Its an 1858.. It could be the biggest piece of crap known to man, and my thoughts are that you would still be deeply honored by his gesture and would ccherish what has been given. Shoot it and consider the old man when you do. You shall forever think of him because of this.

Use it in good health! It's a 5.5" '58 NMA Pietta most likely, the Confederate Model in brass.

Use it well and you'll always remember the Gentleman.

You're doing right by your friend. He's a lucky man to have a friend like you. :hatsoff:

thanx ,but i feel it is i who has been lucky to have him as my friend, this old fart is one of the smartest men ive ever known!

Great story!

I inherited my 2nd cousin's California Half Stock .50 caliber built in the late 70's. It's a nice gun and appraises for $1,500, but is priceless to me. I love that gun.

Hope you have a good time with it and tell him we all said hey for us! Sounds like the gun went to a good man, especially for helping him like you do!

Good show!
