Been waiting a year for this barrel and it's been shipped and should be here friday! So I'm lookin for ball, patch and powder combos.

this was the best gun money I ever spent!

I shoot a LEE cast RB that measures a true .3965, out of a .395 mold(they have a -.000/+.003 tolerance)
I use a .015 measured patch material and olive oil for lube.
My load for paper punching and trail walks, which covers all my targets from 15 to 125 yards typical is 30 grains of Goex 3F.

this puts my gun an inch high at 15, dead on at 50 and about 2 inch low at 100.

caps are cci 11 & 11M

it is a tack driver. I have not made a hunting load for it.

These are my experiences and others may vary and there are bazillions of lubes, methods, patches ect....so your milage may very well be different from mine!

You'll like that set-up. Accurate and easy on powder and your shoulder. 30 to 40 gr Goex 3f, .395 home cast RBs and .015 300tpi spit patch is what mine likes. Go git 'em . . .

I made up a Grn Mtn 40 cal 15/16ths inch at 36" to drop into my Lyman GPR so I could shoot the Buckhorn Skinners Squirrel Rifle Match. Really shoots well with Hornady .395 ball and Lee cast balls. Strips of Wally Mart pillow ticking washed and dried twice at highest machine settings are cut at the muzzle. Lube is my Mouse Milk variant on Moose Milk- just 2 fluid ounces of Ballistol, 1 ounce of Murphy's Oil Soap, enough water to fill the liter pop bottle. Really like 40 grains of GOEX FFFg as 25 and 50 yard target load. Need to hold just a hair low at 25 yards. Using 65 grains for 100 yards; above that the patches start getting raggedy. Find the barrel needs two moist patches after 65 grain loads to maintaion accuracy.

I have a good bit of fun with this barrel in the winter for spot and stalk hunting cottontails.

Friday has turned to next Tuesday, so I have to wait :( , Guess I'll just have to shoot something else this weekend. Thanks for all the info, I'll let you know how it works when I get it.

Buddy did this back 15-20 years ago.

Turned ET from a good shooter to a VERY good shooter.

Target load for me is .400 ball with .015 teflon ticking 25 grains FF swiss powder. 25 yds one hole 5 shots, 50 yds 5/8 inch 3 shots center to center last Friday.

Well it showed up today and I'm a little disappointed in the rear sight. When did they start putting this whimmpy thing on? :idunno: My last one was a 32 and it had a TC knock off on it.
When I get home I'll put it in the stock an see how she fits. :hmm:

Well, everything fits and lines up perfect!
swapped out that sight with one of my rear sights.
the only problem now is that the front sight fell out onto the floor. I'll call GM in the morning see what to do about that.

You can tighten up your front sight by doing one or all of the following:

Place the sharp corner of the dovetail on something hard like a piece of steel or a vise and holding the front sight by the blade with a pair of pliers, lightly tap the sharp corner of the opposite side of the dovetail. This will form a slightly dulled dovetail that will fit tightly into the barrels dovetail groove.

Using a nail or a center punch place the pointed end on the bottom of the barrels dovetail. Use a small hammer to tap the nail/punch a few times making a small dent in several places.
When a dent is made in steel a small raised area is created around the middle. This small raised area will cause a interference between the bottom of the sight and the barrel so the sight will not move when its installed.

Using a straight bladed screw driver place the tip against the upper edge of the dovetail in the barrel. Lightly tap the screwdriver to bend the upper edge of the barrels dovetail down into the slot.
Repeat this on the other upper edge of the barrels dovetail.
It doesn't take much to bend the metal inward so go easy.
The only bad thing about using this method is that often the little marks made by the screw drivers tip can be seen after the sight is installed.

Doing any or all of these 'fixes' will solve your problem without having to send the barrel back to the maker.

yes, I can do that and have done it before. It's just the fact that you've pay good money, it should have been inspected before it left the factory. I assume someone not something installed the sight. For them to let these target barrels go out after people have been waiting YEARS is just :bull: . The thought that I have to start beating on a new barrel is... well you fill in the blank.
I'm sure everything will turn out just fine. It's just not right.

They switched suppliers for the sigths and received some that were under sized. My was not the only one. I measured the old one and they're sending me a new one that fits. Nice people to deal with at GM.
