Many shooters use significantly more than 40 gr of fff. Since you have a GM its should be safe with heavier loads so long as the barrel has been properly proved with a suitable over load. My worry being the breech plug and a vent liner if one is installed.
If you can find some Swiss FFF you may get better results.

Wind drift effects them all.
We typically shoot in 10-20 mph winds at Cody. Even with wind flags its possible to have a shot go out 2-4" even with a 50-54 because a "puff" comes through between looking at the flags and breaking the shot.

Try a 10 shot group. This can be very enlightening.
3 shot groups and even one 5 shot is subject to what a friend calls "the law of compensating errors". Where some error cancels out a bad shot bu putting it on the group. It does happen and can give false impressions of accuracy unless more shots are fired.
Also be aware that where the rifle is rested can make a significant difference in accuracy even if the difference is only 6-8" in some cases.
