Just volcanic ash (chinchilla dust) works great.

It doesn't hurt to do a soil sample before adding amendments to your garden. My wife sent soil samples to be tested this year through the local county extension office. The fee was nominal. I think it was $5. The tests showed that we have very high ph in our soil and needed to add sulfur. Many time people add lime to raise the ph. I was surprised and need to not pour stove ashes on our garden plots. The good part is sulfur was only $20 for a 40 or 50 pound bag of pellets at the local farmers coop. That was much cheaper than the garden stores or big box places. Plus if I get a hankering to do something not allowed to be discussed here I have left over.

BTW, GMO means genetically modified organism. Most corn and soybeans along with tomatoes purchased at super markets are now grown from GMO seed. I don't believe there is any requirement to indicate food is from GMO products. Some folks have concerns about the safety as food. I don't personally subscribe to that at this point, but do have concerns as pests and weeds can develop resistance to GMO products in the same way there are now bugs resistant to antibiotics.

Many people have developed allergies and rashes from these. Even GMO cotton has had bad effects in clothing, people getting rashes etc.

I can see how that might happen if the genes spliced in were from something that a person was allergic to in the first place i.e. peanut genes in a tomato.

Absolutely !....I screwed up a garden years ago by putting 10-10-10 fertilizer on and wood ashes....The soil was already alkaline....and I made it worse....It is very difficult to lower PH.

What does GMO have to do with ANY of this...?

They get bad fast and dont store well.
Attributed more to poor-quality produce and handling. Genetic modification isn't likely to be the cause.

The anti-GMO sentiment is based more in ignorance than fact...

It depends.....regardless, I'm an advocate of labeling and consumer choice....

If I had my druthers, I would suspend military spending for 2 years and use all that money to fund sustainable energy production and robot farming...I'd make both "moon-shot" projects of national security importance....

I don't think cows are on the GMO list.... :haha:
But, if people knew what some are fed, they'd become vegans....
Deer in my area aren't safe to eat...

I till between rows but still have to hill by hand...I only hill twice a season......I would love to have a BCS
